Meet Daniel McClure, Catholic Psychologist in the Twin Cities
Dr. McClure is a licensed psychologist at Novare Counseling Center. He has been captivated by human experience and the pursuit of meaning for most of his life. Inspired by several mission trips to Latin America and eager to give his life for others, Dr. McClure began his college career studying the prerequisites to be a missionary doctor. During this time, he also participated in a lay household formation program while serving his peers as a Student Missionary for St. Paul’s Outreach (SPO) and mentoring high school youth. His zeal for Christ led him to discern a vocation to priesthood at the St. John Vianney and St. Paul diocesan seminaries. In seminary, Dr. McClure worked as a Chaplain Intern at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis where he was moved by the psychological and spiritual wounds of those he encountered. Dr. McClure eventually discerned a call to marriage and a mission of accompanying others towards healing as a psychotherapist. The field of psychology resonates with both his sensitivity to the existential needs of human persons and his desire to concretely walk with others in the midst of their suffering, reminding them that their deepest longings carry within them a promise of fulfillment.
Dr. McClure received his M.S. and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the APA-accredited Institute for the Psychological Sciences (IPS) at Divine Mercy University in Arlington, VA. He wrote his doctoral dissertation on the confluence of attachment between couples, the disposition of hope, and contemplation of beauty in terms of personal communion. Prior to attending IPS, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota where he earned a B.A. in Philosophy and Catholic Studies.
Guided by the Catholic belief in the dignity of every person, Dr. McClure has experience working with clients of a variety of ages from different cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. As a doctoral candidate, Dr. McClure completed a variety of supervised trainings while providing treatment to an outpatient population of children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. He completed his initial training at The IPS Center, a community mental health outreach of Divine Mercy University. This was followed by a summer placement conducting psychological assessments screening applicants to seminary. Dr. McClure then worked at Vital Sources, a Christian group private practice in Frederick, MD, where he received training in psychodynamic therapy while serving primarily low-income individuals, couples, and families. He completed his full-time internship with Catholic Charities Diocese of Arlington where his training and experiences included: conducting screening assessments, providing therapy, and facilitating an interpersonal process group for men in transitional housing; honing his skills as a couples therapist; working with survivors of psychological trauma; and serving the diocesan marriage tribunal.
